Gather round for the 2024 Gather Round

The 2024 Gather Round is here, and the AFL community has once again transcended onto South Australia as all 9 games will be played across three stadiums.

This year is the second iteration of Gather Round and is destined to be bigger and better than last year. The three ground being used are the same three as last year, with Adelaide Oval, Norwood and Mt Barker being home to games.

Adelaide Oval is once again the home of the round, with 5 games being hosted at the iconic venue. Adelaide take on Melbourne, in a do or die game for the Crows season, whilst Melbourne will want to make it 2-0 in their Adelaide trip. Port take on Essendon on Friday night, in a game where you’d imagine the crowd will be very one-sided, and will be a big test for a Bombers side who has started the season better than most expected. Saturday’s double header sees a potential top 4 battle with Carlton facing Freo, in a test for the Dockers to see if they are the real deal. The night game sees Bont and his Bulldogs take on the Cats coming off a short break after Easter Monday and it’s lightening delay. Sunday’s main event sees the Hawks searching for their first win, take on reigning premiers Collingwood, who will be hoping to take revenge off last years shock loss to the Hawks and make it two wins on the bounce. Plenty of storylines going into this game, with Finn vs Nick Daicos, Tom Mitchell against his former club who he has been negative about in the off-season, and Jack Ginnivan taking on the team he felt didn’t want to keep him.

Norwood is the host of two games, starting with Friday afternoon, with Brisbane hoping to win its first game of the season against North, who will also be hoping to get their first 4 points of the season, but have shown promise at times, with their young stars continuing to show growth and give hope to their fans for the future. Sunday arvo is time for one of the more intriguing games of the round, with Richmond, hoping to take form from their big win over Sydney last week against a Saints team who has shown promise at times this season.

Mt Barker represents the Adelaide Hills once again, and hosts an extra game this season, with Saturday’s game seeing West Coast take on Sydney, with fans getting the chance to see Harley Reid take on early Brownlow favourite in Isaac Heeney. The other game sees the two newest teams taking on each other, in a battle that will see a fiery contest on the field, but also across social media. Plenty of midfield talent on display, with superstars such as Tom Greene, Coniglio, Kelly taking on Rowell, Miller and Flanders.
