A list of drills for coaches and parents to focus on goal kicking skill development—helping players improve their kicking under pressure and in game-like scenarios.


 

Set Shots:
10 Shot Challenge

10 Shot Challenge is all about building confidence in front of goal & perfect for sharpening your kicking accuracy.
Move around the arc, change up your angles and distances, and train solo or go head-to-head with a teammate.

Simple Set Shots

DRILL OUTLINE:

  • Take 2-4 set shots at each spot changing your angle and distance at each spot.
  • If training with a team then do it in pairs, challenge your teammate and see who wins.
  • Practice this drill for 3-5 times per week for 15-30 mins each time.

 


 

Set Shots:
Mirror Shots

Line up next to a teammate, walk in together, and kick at the same time.
Block out the noise—focus only on your ball, stay calm and sharp, and see who nails the most goals.

DRILL OUTLINE:

  • Have 10 - 20 shots.
  • Walk in at the same time.
  • Kick at a similar time
  • Be calm and only watch your ball.
  • Who wins?

 


 

Set Shots:
Score / 25 ...Shoot Out

Take turns having one shot at each spot over nine kicks, alternate who starts each round, tally your total out of 25, and see who comes out on top.
Accuracy and consistency are key to winning this one.

  • Start anywhere and have 9 kicks
  • Have 1 shot each at each spot

Set Shots:
3 Layers ...9 Kicks

3 Layers is a challenge of skill and consistency—start at the Orange layer and hit 3 in a row to level up, then move to Blue and Yellow, with each layer getting harder.
Miss a shot and you restart that layer—go for the perfect 9 from 9. Can you beat your mate?

DRILL OUTLINE:

  • Start at Orange Layer- have 1 kick at each
  • Only when you kick all 3 Orange shots in a row
    • move to Blue Layer -if you miss do Orange Layer again
  • When you Kick all 3 Blue Layer in a row
    • then Move to Yellow …if you miss go restart that Layer
  • Finally kick 3 in a row in Yellow Layer
  • Perfect Score is 9 from 9 Kicks - Beat your Mate

 


 

Set Shots:
30 Points

30 Points is a simple scoring drill that adds pressure to every kick—work in pairs and take one shot at each marked spot, each worth different points.
Tally your total out of 30—the highest score wins.

Set Snaps:
Set Snaps

Set Snaps focuses on calm, controlled goal-kicking—start at spot one, take your time, read the angle, adjust your hands and ball position, then snap.
Walk to the next spot and repeat; hit all 8 spots with patience and precision to build rhythm, feel, and a reliable goal-kicking technique.

  • Take your time - work out angle - shoot
  • Walk to next spot - Calm - Repeat above
  • Go to all 1-8 spots calm...then shoot
  • This takes time and constant adjustment of hands and ball angle

 


 

In Play Snaps:
Repeat Snaps

Repeat Snaps sharpens your goal sense under pressure—one player takes 5 snaps in a row: pick up, walk in, see the goals, and snap.
Change direction, switch feet, go faster, add passive pressure, or have the ball tapped in—it's quick, intense, and game-like.

  • 1 player has 5 snaps in a row
  • Pick up ball -walk / set ball /see Goal /Shoot
  • Do Faster / Do other Direction / Right Foot / Left Foot
  • Can have ball tapped to kicking Player who Snaps
  • Can have player Chased with Passive Pressure

 


 

Pressured Snaps:
3 Separate (A B C)

These three pressure snap drills are perfect for building quick hands and decision making; challenging players to stay composed in chaos. 
Rotate through all three: Handball Back Snap, 4v2 Handball Snap, and Win 1v1 Snap to sharpen your finishing instinct in front of goal.

DRILL OUTLINE:

  1. Handball Back Snap -
    1. Coach rolls ball to Player
    2. He gathers & handballs to mate who snaps ( when good gatherer can add frontal pressure)
  2. 4v2 Handball Snap -
    1. In Small uneven teams ( 4 v 2 ).
    2. Quick hands in close on “go” man snaps
    3. Coach can roll 1 or 2 more balls to red players all others put passive pressure on kickers
  3. Win 1v1 Snap -
    1. In pairs fight to win 1v1 ground ball
    2. Handball up to team mate in front
    3. Snap & Goal

 


 

On the Run:
4 on the run

Here are 4 different drills to build confidence kicking on the run from various angles and setups.
Work through run, bounce & shoot, handball to coach, recieve & shoot, zig-zag then snap, and run at 90 degrees and shoot.

  1. Run, Bounce & Shoot
  2. Run, Handball to Coach - Receive back & Shoot
  3. Zig Zag & Shoot …
  4. Run at 90° then Straighten & Shoot

 


 

Goal kicking circuit:
Never the same

Work in pairs and take one shot at each spot—but change the angle, distance, and kick type every time.
Set shots, snaps, on the run—you’ll need every trick in the book. No two kicks the same.
