Introducing the 2025 AFLW Pride Game Ball - designed by Carlton FC AFLW player, Darcy Vescio.

A trailblazer on and off the field, Darcy continues to play an important leadership role in the game supporting inclusivity and equality. One of the founding players in the W, their connection to Pride Round rings true in the unique design produced for Season 10.

“The opportunity to design the pride ball is a huge honour. I wanted the ball to reflect our progress so far in AFLW as well as pay tribute to the many women and gender diverse people who made AFLW possible. I’ve always experienced the league as a movement, one which collective ripples are made. I wanted to highlight moments we have witnessed in the game as well as barriers smashed off field. The LGBTQI+ community always has been and continues to be the heartbeat of AFLW, this ball is for all of us.

"Proceeds from these Sherrin's will be donated to Pride in Sport, a national sporting inclusion program designed to assist sporting organisations of all levels.

ABOUT THE PRIDE ROUND GAME BALL ARTIST

The 2025 Pride Game Ball is designed by AFLW player Darcy Vescio. Darcy currently plays for Carlton and has been vice-captain since 2022. A trailblazer on and off the field, Darcy continues to play an important leadership role in the game supporting inclusivity and equality. One of the founding players in the W, their connection to Pride Round rings true in the unique design produced for Season 10.

BEHIND THE DESIGN

• The pattern of the ball was inspired by ripple patterns on sand. Women’s football is often referred to as a movement, and I feel privileged to be part of the many waves.

• The ripple structure is made from the repetition of football silhouettes. This represents the importance of each individual in creating the power of collective movement. Football is our central vehicle for change and what brings us all together. There are over 2,350 footballs on this Sherrin.

• The colour of the ripple is the rainbow, representing the LGBTIQ+ community. This community has always been a central force in the women’s football community and continues to have a strong presence in the AFLW playing cohort today.

• To mark 10 seasons of W, within each ripple, there are 10 significant moments in women’s football history. Many have occurred inside AFLW seasons, whilst others were part of the ongoing swell and waves which brought AFLW into existence.

THE MOMENTS ON THE BALL

1892 - Bendigo woman charged with nuisance for kicking a ball in public.

1923 - Richmond Tigresses wear masks in their team photo to avoid public shaming.

1995 - The late Sal Rees became the first woman to nominate for the AFL draft.

2017 - Alison Downie and Emma King contest the first ever ball up in AFLW history.

2017 - Jasmine Garner scores the first goal in AFLW history.

2017 - Erin Phillips celebrates the historic 2017 Adelaide premiership with her twin kids, Brooklyn and Blake.

2019 - Tayla Harris’ kick, which became the target of online trolling and a symbol for change.

2021 - Debbie Lee becomes the first woman to enter the AFL Hall of Fame.

2022 - Daisy Pearce lifts the cup with coach Mick Stinear as Melbourne win the season 7 premiership in her final game

2024 - Maddy Prespakis lifts her shirt in response to body shaming - a moment likened to Nicky Winmar’s stand against racism.
