How To Keep Your Sherrin In Good Condition

To ensure you never miss a kick, it’s important that you keep your Sherrin in good condition. Footy’s are sturdy and robust, but they also require proper care to maintain their appearance and durability. Whether you enjoy an informal game in the backyard, or are a coach looking for extra advice on how to store and inflate your footballs, we have compiled some things to know.

Know What Your Sherrin Is Made Of

In order to take care of your footy you should know what materials are used to create one.

Know How to Store Your Sherrin

  • Store your footy in a cool, dry place
  • Don’t keep your footy in cars for long periods as the heat can expand the bladder and damage the ball
  • Keep your footy away from direct sunlight for extended periods of time
  • Always ensure you keep some air in the bladder except for short periods or if you are shipping the ball
  • Balls kept in display stands or boxes may get indentations or marks in the leather and printing over long periods of time

Know How Much to Inflate Your Sherrin

The metric pressure unit for inflation is kPa (kilopascal) and all Sherrin footballs have a recommended inflation unit printed around their inflation valves. It’s very important to adhere by these measurements to ensure you don’t over-inflate and cause damage to the ball.

  • Ensure that the bladder is in the centre of the ball
  • If you are using a hand pump, place the ball on a flat surface as the needle can heat up and bend of snap if weight is applied to it
  • Apple a drop of Vaseline or silicone oil into the valve or on the needle before inflating
  • The correct way to inflate the ball is to hold the bladder from the valve panel tightly and only then insert the needle
  • Partially inflate the ball and then check that the bladder is in the correct position, if it is, then inflate to correct pressure
  • Always remember to not over-inflate the ball

Know What Your Sherrin is Suitable For

Not every ball is designed to be used on the same surface, so be sure to read the instructions and advice provided before you go out for a kick. Leather balls and PVC balls are suitable for grass use only and synthetic rubber balls are suitable for all surfaces.

We highly recommend only using the ball as it was intended to be used. This will enhance longevity and allow you to kick around your Sherrin for many years to come.
