AFLW 2022 Season Preview

Women’s footy games and crowds are back. After being postponed from last December, round one is set to begin on 7th January start at SkyBus stadium.

It’s been nearly nine months since the final siren in 2021 when we saw the Lions take out their first AFLW Championship. Crowds at full capacity might seem like a distant memory, but in the coming days, we’ll be reminded of how good it feels to be a part of the roar.

Matches will be ticketed, which were introduced last year and available virtually for those wishing to attend amid the current COVID-19 situation around the country. Looking forward to 10 exciting rounds of the home and away season and 3 weeks of finals.

This season will see the introduction of new rules, which will include the introduction of the Stand Rule both for players on the mark and at kick-ins the mark will move slightly to give players more room to make decisions.

The teams you cannot go past this season are last year’s grand finalists, and the two of the strongest performing teams for the last five years, Brisbane Lions and Adelaide Crows. Adelaide still has their stars, Erin Phillips, Chelsea Randall. Melbourne is another team to keep an eye out for, they’ve had a big pre-season and brought Taylah Harris and Olivia Purcell into the side. Don’t forget the underdogs, Collingwood - they have a packed forward line, which will support superstar Chloe Molloy to get the job done this season.

Dust off the guernsey or scarf, get into the face paint, and don’t forget your facemask – we’ll see you at the ground!
